Designer - Roofing & Cladding
United Kingdom
Full Job Description
We’re working with an established specialist roofing contractor looking to appoint an experienced Roofing Designer. This fully home-based role will suit someone with strong flat roofing and waterproofing knowledge who enjoys developing practical, commercially considered designs and working closely with the teams delivering them.
Roofing Designer – Fully Home-Based – £50,000–£60,000
About the Company
Our client delivers roofing and waterproofing projects across the UK, supporting projects from specification and design through to installation. The business works with developers and main contractors on new build and refurbishment schemes.
You’ll join a team of two Designers and a Technical Manager, reporting directly to the Technical Manager.
The Role
You’ll develop roofing designs using AutoCAD 2D for projects typically valued between £1 million and £4 million. Around 95% of the workload is roofing, with a smaller element of rainscreen cladding design.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Producing and updating design drawings and technical details for roofing and waterproofing systems.
• Working across built-up felt, hot melt, cold-applied and single-ply roofing systems.
• Developing designs that meet project specifications, client requirements and relevant Building Regulations.
• Identifying opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or performance.
• Working closely with Commercial and Site/Operations teams, keeping them informed of design changes, potential issues and opportunities.
• Responding positively to feedback and resolving design queries with practical solutions.
The Ideal Candidate
We’re keen to speak with experienced Roofing Designers who combine technical knowledge with commercial awareness. You’ll bring:
• A strong roofing industry background and design knowledge across the flat roofing and waterproofing systems listed above.
• Confident use of AutoCAD 2D and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• A good understanding of Building Regulations; working knowledge of the Building Safety Act and CDM Regulations would be advantageous.
• Clear communication skills and a practical, positive approach to working with commercial and site teams.
• The organisation and self-motivation to manage your work effectively from home.
Rainscreen cladding design experience would be beneficial, although roofing expertise is the main priority.
Why you’ll love this role
You’ll have the opportunity to work from home full time while remaining part of an established technical team. The role offers a salary of £50,000–£60,000 and involvement in substantial roofing projects, with scope to influence how designs support both project delivery and commercial performance.
